Joint iPRES-2013/DC-2013 Doctoral Consortium
Call for Contributions
The Doctoral Consortium is a workshop for Ph.D. students who are in the early phases of their research work. Ideally, students should be in the stage of defending their thesis proposal, and yet still away from finishing the research, so they can benefit from participating in the consortium.The goal of the Doctoral Consortium is to help students with feedback and general advice in a constructive atmosphere. A panel of prominent professors and experienced practitioners in the field of will conduct the workshop.
The workshop will take place on September 2, 2013. During the workshop, each student will have time to present his/her actual thesis proposal, what has been achieved so far and the future plans.After that, time will be reserved for discussion and feedback from the experts and other participants.
There is no registration fee for students who are accepted for the Doctoral Consortium.
Students interested in participating in the Doctoral Consortium should submit a 6 to 8 page paper (see "Information for Authors" on the format of the submission), and send it by email to: ipres2013@ist.utl.pt
The submission deadline is 23 June 2013
The submission should:
- Be solely authored by the student,
- Clearly formulate the research question,
- Identify the significant problems in the field of research (which must be one of the topics covered by the general call of the iPRES-2013 or DC-2013 conferences),
- Summarize the current knowledge of the problem domain, as well as the relevant state of the art for solutions,
- Clearly present any preliminary research plans and ideas, and the results achieved so far,
- Sketch the research methodology that is to be applied,
- Describe the expected contributions of the applicant to the research area, and
- Describe how the research is innovative, novel or extends existing approaches to a problem
- Have appended a statement by your advisor / supervisor saying how you would benefit by attending the Consortium.
Accepted submissions will be:
- Distributed to Doctoral Consortium participants
- Invited to be presented as a poster during the joint posters session (but will not be published in any of the proceedings).
- Invited to be published as a revised version in a special issue of the TCDL Bulletin, the publication of the IEEE-CS Technical Committee on Digital Libraries.
